Medford is a town rich with history and life. In the late 1800’s and into the early 20th century it was a hub of industry with the production of brick, tile, rum, brilliant clipper ships, and even crackers. After watching a sleigh race take place at a tavern on High Street, Medford native James Pierpont penned the famous Christmas song “Jingle Bells”. The town inspired another classic poem and song called “Over the River and Through the Woods” by Lydia Maria Child, describing the snowy Medford landscape and crossing the Mystic River on a trip to her grandparents house for Thanksgiving Day. Medford was also home to famous cookbook writer, Fannie Farmer, and at one time, Amelia Earhart.
